Reserving the Heritage or Demonstration Garden for your Special Event

For more than 62 years, the Horticultural Art Society has maintained the gardens in Monument Valley Park for the Colorado Springs Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services through our volunteer services. Either the Heritage Garden or the Demonstration Garden may be reserved for your important occasions, such as weddings, showers, birthday parties, and memorial services.
The gardens are lovely venues for many occasions, including weddings, parties, reunions and celebration of life memorial ceremonies. Just prior to an event, our volunteers work in the gardens so that they look their best for a ceremony or any gathering. Thank you for considering one of our gardens for your upcoming event.
Alcohol Policy: Alcohol may not be served in any of the city parks.
Decorations and Environmental Protection: Please care for the natural environment. No flower, tree, or shrub cuttings are allowed. Do not release birds, butterflies, or balloons. Additionally, nothing may be tossed: not real petals, silk petals, rice, confetti, plastic coins, papers, or anything else not listed here because of the damage to the gardens and out of consideration for our volunteers who maintain the gardens.
Due to the sensitive nature of the gardens’ grounds and horticulture, the use of sparklersand/or fireworks, the releasing of balloons or the throwing or placing of non-biodegradable items are strictly prohibited. Note: taping, tacking, puncturing, or digging, staking, etc. is not permitted. No releasing of butterflies, birds, doves or any other animals is permitted.
Furniture: During your usage, you may bring in tables and chairs, a podium. You may even hold your reception at the gardens. If you are bringing in tables and chairs or using a catering service, everything must be completely removed at the conclusion of your use. Please note that you may need to bring large removal bags as there are few trash receptacles in the gardens, and these bags will also need to be removed.
Any chairs, tables, and any decorations must be removed at the conclusion of your use. It may be necessary for you to take care of trash removal of food products, paper products, etc. at the
conclusion of your usage.
Music: The City of Colorado Springs requires a music permit for any music provided at your occasion. Application may be made through the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services. This includes combos, bands, and even musical players such as boom boxes. Please note that there are no electrical sources in either garden. If you are using amplified equipment for your picnic or event, you will need to obtain a noise permit through the Police Department per Ordinances No. 9-8-101 through 9-8-109. Please contact CSPD at719/444-7705 regarding noise permits. No permit is confirmed until the noise permit has been approved.
Photography: Photos may be taken in either garden prior to or on the day of your reservation, and regardless of which garden you have reserved. Please refrain from standing in any of the flower beds. Parking: Parking is streetside for both gardens. There is also a Monument Valley Park parking lot across the street from the Demonstration Garden near the pickleball courts.
Restrooms: There are no restroom facilities or water sources in either garden. The nearest arelocated near the Monument Valley Park pickleball courts. Portable units may be rented and located at one of the gardens. These are arrangements that you will have to make and with prompt removal.
About the Gardens:
The Heritage Garden: The Heritage Garden offers a large central grassy area under the historic Elm Tree. It also features an attractive metal gazebo, vine-covered arched arbors, a parterre garden
with the Lorelei statue, and a rock garden with alpine plants.
The Demonstration Garden: The Demonstration Garden presents as an informal large lawn and meandering paths through woodlands, garden beds of roses, shade plants, native plants and mixed
flowers, and interesting plants in view. It is home to native plants, roses, and a fenced vegetable garden. There are picnic tables, a vine-covered arbor seat, and a Children’s Garden with an ornamental entrance.
Reservations and Fees: Typically, the summer months are best choices due to weather and blooming plants. Garden reservations, however, are available year-round. The second and third weekends in May are not available due to the Horticultural Art Society’s annual gigantic plant sale.
Gardens are available to the first paid reservation on a particular date. A reservation fee of $100 is necessary to secure the garden. Please note, that two events, depending on time and availability may be scheduled on the same date. The City’s Department of Parks and Recreation sets guidelines for all reservation fees.
Reservations are limited to 4 hours. Typically, 2 hours prior to the ceremony time allows for setting up, photos, and greeting guests. Allowing one hour for the ceremony, we recommend the fourth hour
for cleaning up. Additional reservation time is possible upon request.

Please use the contact form above to make your initial inquiry, and a HAS representative will contact you. The fee for garden reservations is $100 payable online through the HAS PayPal account. Please look for the button on the contact form. If paying by check is your preference, please mail it to HAS, PO Box 7706, Colorado
Springs, CO 80933.
A reservation is only placed on the master calendar once it has been confirmed and scheduled with the $100 paid reservation fee. Refund of your reservation fee is possible only if you notify us of your cancellation at least two weeks in advance of your event.
Services and Facilities: HAS provides the gardens only, with volunteers assuring that the gardens are attractive and tidy prior to the event. We recommend that you visit both gardens prior to making your reservation choice. These are public gardens, and there will be other people in the gardens during the time of your reservation. Our experience is that garden visitors are respectful of private events that are occurring. HAS does provide a letter to whomever reserves the garden that states that the Garden is reserved and that the bearer of the letter has priority usage. The letter may be shared with other garden visitors, if needed.

PLEASE NOTE: At the conclusion of your event usage,
you may need to take care of trash removal, when your trash is more than can be put in the garden’s few trash receptacles. We recommend that you bring large trash removal bags, and you will need to remove these bags.
