Presented by Pam Hamamoto

Free to all at the East Library, 5550 E. Union Blvd.

Late summer is here. Is your garden waning at this point, or is it blooming gloriously? Pam will share some excellent choices for late summer color in our gardens – tough, hardy, colorful plants that can also take our extreme weather changes at this time of year (rain, no rain, hail, early near freezes, etc, etc, etc). A list by color, height, and water needs will be provided for some dynamite plants. Come be inspired and take away ideas for additions to your late summer garden.

Free to all at the East Library, 5550 E. Union Blvd.

You may have been to the Plant Sale before, but you may learn something new here as Barb Colvin tells about the trees and shrubs she’s ordered from Fort Collins. Shirley Gloss-Soler, the Tomato Lady, will talk about the herbs and tomatoes you will find, and Pam Hamamoto will tell us about the Plant Select program and introduce us to the 2011 selections. We’ll also answer any questions about the sale itself! (If you’re volunteering at the sale, this is a terrific opportunity to brush up on how it all works and what will be available.)

September 30, 2010

Forcing spring blooming bulbs to bloom before their time is a skill, an art, a craft. The skill lies in layering bulbs in their pot so they will all bloom at nearly the same time, the art is in the choice and combination of the bulbs, and the craft is in timing and handling of the planted bulbs to bring them into bloom. Margie taught this skill to the children of the HAS Children’s Garden program in the late 90′s and she will show us how to do it in her program. She invites you to bring your children (or borrow some) for this fun and free presentation.

Free to all at the East Library, 5550 E. Union Blvd.
